Since early days Christians have observed with great devotion the time of our Lord’s passion and resurrection in the days before Easter and prepared for this by a season of penitence and fasting, which today we call “Lent.” By carefully keeping these days, Christians throughout the whole world take to heart our call to continual repentance and our assurance of forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel. As we do that, we grow in faith and in devotion to our Lord. Lent is an opportunity for self-examination, discipline, and renewal, beginning Ash Wednesday, with a time of contemplating our mortality and weakness to more fully receive God’s life and strength. We will celebrate Ash Wednesday together, in homes throughout our city as we prepare for the Lenten season. Join us, won't you?
